WoW Companion
A Twitch Extension that helped viewers follow a World of Warcraft: Midnight pen-and-paper event through live recaps and detailed character sheets.
I developed WoW Companion for a World of Warcraft-themed pen-and-paper event that brought several streamers together on Twitch for the release of World of Warcraft: Midnight. The extension gave viewers a dedicated place to catch up on the adventure and explore the characters without leaving the stream.
The supplied artwork and Blizzard branding were combined with expansion-specific logos, typography, decorative frames, and interface details to make the extension feel like a natural part of the Midnight release. This visual consistency connected the Twitch experience directly to the event and the wider campaign surrounding the new expansion.
Story Recaps
The recap page presents the story in chapters, with pagination that lets viewers move through the events in chronological order. It was especially useful for people who joined the broadcast late, missed part of the session, or wanted a quick reminder of what had already happened.Character Sheets
A second page showcases every character played by the participating streamers. Viewers can switch between the cast and inspect each character's name, player, class, image, attributes, and background story. The interface was designed to work as a Twitch overlay as well as on mobile devices.Design
Blizzard provided us with official assets for the project, which became the foundation of the extension's visual direction. Since every World of Warcraft expansion has its own distinct identity, we designed the interface around the dark blue and violet color palette, atmosphere, and fantasy aesthetic of Midnight. The supplied artwork and Blizzard branding were combined with expansion-specific logos, typography, decorative frames, and interface details to make the extension feel like a natural part of the Midnight release. This visual consistency connected the Twitch experience directly to the event and the wider campaign surrounding the new expansion.
Live Content Management
I also implemented a Strapi backend for all character information and story recaps. A moderator received editorial access and could update stats and descriptions, revise existing chapters, or publish new recaps while the event was taking place, without requiring a new extension deployment.Dynamic Twitch Experience
Whenever a viewer opened the extension, it fetched the latest content from Strapi. This decoupled setup kept the Twitch experience current throughout the live event while giving the event team direct control over everything the audience saw. Measured impact
Built to be used, not just viewed.
The companion helped the audience explore the characters and stay connected to the story throughout the live event.
